FSP or Fortron Source as the company is also known, is another household name in the power supply market and several large PC manufacturers use FSP as their main source. FSP is not really a big retail brand and with the Blue Storm range of power supplies, this is something FSP is trying to address.

The unit we got sent for this group test is rated at 400W although the Blue Storm range is available from 350W to 500W in even steps of 50W. The PSU casing is finished in a dark blue matt metallic casing and has a bottom mounted 120mm blue fan, as well as a blue backlit power switch.

All the cables have blue braiding and the Molex connectors are fitted with similar quick release latches as those that Akasa uses on the PaxPower. There’s a set of six Molex, two floppy, and two SATA power connectors, which is pretty much the norm in this group test. There’s also a 24-pin EPS style power connector - which is supplied with a 20-pin ATX adaptor - and a 12V connector.

The Blue Storm follows the new ATX spec with dual 12V rails and performed well in all of the tests. It was the most efficient PSU at 75 per cent load, at which is was also very quiet, although inevitably it started to get noisy at 100 per cent load due to the heat produced.

The Blue Storm isn’t perfect as it features a passive Power Factor Correction (PFC), which in itself isn’t really a problem, but it is usually a cost cutting option. At £44.65 the Blue Storm is quite affordable and there’s really very little to complain about but the Jeantech steals the award from the FSP by being cheaper, having a better wattage rating and producing similar test results.
