In a way it is thanks to Tagan that we got this group test done and to be honest we were concerned before we started testing that Tagan would end up winning on all counts. This however proved not to be the case, as none of the three units Tagan supplied excelled in any of the tests. However, all three units performed within spec.

The first of the three is the TG330-U01, which at a mere 330W is Tagan’s entry level PSU. As with all of Tagan’s power supplies it is finished in matt black with a front and rear mounted 80mm fan. You would be mistaken for thinking that this would add a lot of noise, but Tagan has managed to produce very low noise units despite the use of two fans.
Tagan is also one of only two manufacturers on test to use twisted cables, which according to Tagan is meant to reduce EMI. Another interesting inclusion is a ground wire, something we haven’t seen since the day of AT power supplies, but Tagan claims that the grounding on most PSUs is not good enough. Connecting the grounding wire up did improve the voltages across all of the power rails by between 0.02 and 0.04V, and although this isn’t a huge improvement it is still enough to make it a worthwhile inclusion.
Tagan has been generous with the connectors on the TG330-U01, especially when you consider that this is an entry level power supply. There are no less than eight Molex connectors, divided between four cables, of which two end in a floppy connector. Add to this two SATA power connectors, each on a separate cable, a 20-pin ATX connector and a 12V connector and you’ve got the most connection rich entry level PSU on test. You also get a couple of cable ties as well as a set of five re-usable Velcro cable ties in different colours. This comes as standard with all of the Tagan PSUs.

In terms of test results the TG330-U01 didn’t impress, with a fairly low efficiency at 25 per cent load, but was well within spec. However, it never went above 73 per cent efficiency at any load, which makes it one of the least efficient PSUs on test overall. The only other slight concern was the drop of the 12V rail at 100 per cent load, but it stayed within spec, so again we can’t criticise it too hard. Overall the TG330-U01 is a feature rich entry level PSU but the Jeantech still beats it on price and performance.
