Steel Series Unveils New Siberia V2 Gaming Headset

If you're an avid PC gamer, headphones may not be the first thing you think about when speccing up your gaming PC but, if you want to get every possible competitive edge, they are arguably one of the most important components of your PC. After all, if you can hear your opponent before they hear you then you've already got the upper hand. With that in mind, the arrival of Steel Series' new gaming headset should pique the interest of any budding fragsters out there.
Following on from its highly successful predecessor, the Siberia V2 employ brand new 50mm drivers that can deliver an impressive frequency response of 10-28,000Hz. These are housed in a new closed-back design to keep the noise of all your fellow LAN players out and the subtlest footsteps of your enemies in.

Rather than the rather cumbersome separate microphone of the original Siberia headset, the V2 uses a retractable one like that of the Siberia neckband, which seems like a very sensible change. Wearers of glasses (like myself) will also be pleased to hear the V2 has even thicker padding surrounding the speakers. They're also now covered in leather so won't get filled up with unsightly gunk like cloth covered headphones tend to. Thankfully, though, the super comfy and lightweight suspended headband is retained from the original Siberia.

Two versions of the V2 will be available; one with a virtual surround 7.1 USB soundcard, which sounds rather dubious to us, and one without. Both include inline volume controls and cord extensions and also feature the optimised soundscape as present on some of Steel Series other headphones. Essentially Steel Series has picked out particular sounds, like the footsteps in Counter-Strike, and boosted them to make them stand out. We've yet to see how effective this system is and/or whether it adversely affects music listening but we'll be sure to find out when we get a review sample in. Sadly there's no word on pricing yet but we do know they'll be arriving in November so keep your eyes peeled soldier…

My Phillips cans have broken after 6 years of use so I'm in the market, as it were, and this seems to fit the bill. This may seem a bit superficial, but is white the only color or ... more

My first pair are amazing, still use them all the time. Not found a better gaming headset out there. Roll on November!

Yeah, mine broke after a couple of years too (which is better than the other gaming headsets I've had) so hopefully they've improved the build quality as well as the microphone.
