BT Enters Mobile Broadband Space With Cheap Combo Deal Comments

I am BT broadband subscriber so I went to the website to buy a dongle. Can't find a link for existing users only new users. If someone can find a link please let me know.

the best deal on the high street is with 02 which is £15 a month giving you 3gb on pay as you go ( with dongle ) which beats BT by a mile as far as I can see.

I think you all have missed the point... BT, its a scandal.

Starance, you need to check your facts. Ignoring the 3 month introductory period (saves approx £6-8 pm for 3 months), BT Broadband prices are as follows:

Option 1 - £15.65 - 10GB allowance, 250 wifi minutes, free 802.11n router
Option 2 - £20.54 - 20GB allowance, 350 wifi minutes, free 802.11n router
Option 3 - £24.46 - unlimited BB, unlimited wifi, free 802.11n router and hub phone

The Home Hub router is in my experience excellent, as is the hub phone, and their BB uptime is (unlike some other providers) pretty rock solid. All connections are up to 8 meg. All offer free mobile BB, with the dongle costing £49.99 on option 1/2 and £9.99 on option 3.

BT is not militant about enforcing bandwidth caps on fixed line BB, and won't charge you for going over your limit. Not sure what their policy is on mobile BB.

Yes you need line rental on top of that, but where did you get £44.03 for BB from?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a BT fanboy, but I get fed up with them being constantly bashed by ill informed people.

Looks like Starance is looking at the BT phone, TV and broadband package, which includes a load of bundled TV on demand, Setanta Sports and free evening and weekend calls. The package prices the TV pack at £19.57 pm after the introductory period and the BB at £24.46. The call bundle is "free".

@Starance: Without knowing what sort of limits the unlimited package has it's hard to see what you're complaining about, obviously at just £55 it's not going to be truly unlimited.

This BT deal looks reasonable but nothing special. Other setups are comparable. For example a pre-paid £130 24Month/24GB Three dongle is effectively £97.50 after 18 months and add something like PlusNet's 10GB broadband package for £12 a month (half price for the first three months) and the total comes to £295.50 for 18 months. Of course, that doesn't include the wifi hotspot access.

Just phone BT for any sites you want unblocked. Then repeat "nanny knows best, nanny knows best..."

virginmedia - unlimited 10mb broadband, telephone and 1Gbpm usb stick total £333 for 12 months , I would pay that £25 extra over BTs claimed £308.08 as it would no doubt be far more relible in speed and is properly unlimited and you still get a better speed than BT even if the supposed speed restrictions are implemented for downloadng too much (which has never happened to me and I'm a heavy downloader!)

@Jay: Virgin aren't unlimited and haven't been for some time, they impose rather strict traffic limitations, especially on the cheaper packages, and will cut you to a quarter of your normal speed if you exceed them.

that's still 2.5MBit, which isn't that more than most BT customers get anyway? and there still isn't a limit to the amount you can download in that period. As I said earlier I'm a heavy downloader and have never noticed any speed restrictions.

I thought the average speed for ADSLMax was supposed to be 4-5Mbps?

Your local area may be an exception to virgin's traffic limitations but others have reported that they're definitely imposing them generally.

Virgin's package may suit some people, especially those more than a few kilometres from an exchange but you should be aware of the strict limits on it before signing up.

@Jay - BT's £308 is for *18* months, not 12. Also Virgin's cable network has far from universal availability.
