Asus' previous TV tuner efforts haven't been half bad, and the Express TV Stick looks to be following in the same vein. Its party trick is 4GB of onboard storage which cleverly holds the required software, which will auto-install when the tuner is plugged into a USB port, with no user intervention required.

The auto-installation will provide not only the drivers required to operate, but also Asus' Pop-Up TV technology, giving near-instant access to analogue and DVB-T broadcasts. The package also included an antenna, remote control and a video breakout cable.

The tuner will work happily on both XP and Vista, but the latter OS is also provided with Asus' GadgeTV add-on. This sits in the Vista sidebar and offers quick access not only to a small live TV preview (which can be expanded to full screen) but also enables easy recording of TV broadcasts.

Thanks to the 4GB of onboard flash memory, programmes can be recorded direct to the TV tuner and transported to other PCs. Pricing and availability aren't mentioned, but not much and not long seem reasonable guesses.

Asus.
