Microsft's latest SideWinder X3 isn't making quite the impression on me that the SideWinder X8 did, but it is likely to have the advantage of costing less, and that's not to be sniffed out currently!

Featuring a design which should please left- and right-handers equally, unlike the rest of the pretty much righty exclusive SideWinder range, the X3 has a 2,000dpi laser-tracking system, with on-the-fly sensitivity switching. Of course we would have preferred to see BlueTrack.

The X3 sports five programmable buttons which can be assigned as per user desire, as usual for a SideWinder, via IntelliPoint. The main (left click) button is rated to a massive 10 million clicks, so durability shouldn't be a concern.

Microsoft's MSRP in the US is $39.95 and a quick gander at the pre-order over at Amazon shows that's translating to £39.99 over here which isn't too bad given the current exchange rate.

@Energizer Bunny

I'm guessing it would be the "Being British Tax" that we always end up having to pay.

Actually Amazon are just overpriced in this case, several shops have got it for £20-26.

Nice to see it doesn't feature the really perverted right tilt that so many (gaming or not) mice have.
