Logitech's Harmony range of universal remotes has just got a new kingpin, the Harmony 1100. This remote, which features a 3.5in colour touchscreen and utilises both infrared and 'out of sight' wireless RF, slots into the top of the range, with a US SRP of $499.99.

Device support encompasses a massive 225,000 devices from 5,000 different brands and the1100 is capable of replacing 15 remotes. Key to its design is customisation, since Logitech claims it makes it that bit easier to organise what function you want to see.

This is reflected in the 'Activities' mode, which divides into themes like 'Watch TV', 'Play Game' or 'Watch DVD', turning on all devices in the correct order to get you where you want to be as quickly as possible. Another new addition is some programmable soft-touch buttons, providing further 'instant access' to your desired device.

The Harmony 1100 will be shipping in the US in February, but there are no UK pricing or availability information at present.

No bluetooth for controlling PS3? Shame - I've been looking forward to a universal remote which can control both IR devices and the world's most popular Blu-Ray player.
