Short and sweet this one because if you regularly drive a car you're going to want this...

The descriptively named 'Car Charger with 4 USB Ports and 1 Cigarette Socket' from USBfever pretty much does my job for me since it is an adaptor for any car cigarette lighter which adds four powered USB ports into the mix and doesn't even do away with the lighter itself.

Ingeniously simple, the charger requires no battery and no wires taking all it needs from the lighter socket and with up to a 2000mA output (using all five sockets) you'll be fine charging multiple devices simultaneously. Being standard USB ports the four on offer are also compatible with any device capable of charging over USB including all generations of iPod, any modern MP3 player, GPS units, mobile phones, digital cameras and PDAs.

Raw specs are as follows:

  • Input: 12 ~ 24VDC
  • Output 5.0 ~ 5.5V
  • Output Current: =65%
  • Quiescent Current (mA) 50mA
  • Size: 99.5 x 4.75 x 4.75cm approx.
  • Weight: 55g approx.

As for pricing and availability there's more good news. At just $22.99 (approx £11.50) it isn't going to break the bank and the white edition pictured above is on sale now with a black version arriving in mid September. Cheaper dual USB and single USB alternatives are also on sale if you're something of a non-smoking, one gadget (wo)man.

Clever stuff once more USBfever...

Very nice idea :) Especially good for things like MP3 players that can be charged by USB, unlimited in car music and movies :D
