It's an accepted affliction of the journalistic profession, it appears that cases RSI (Repetitive Stress Injury) are now rising sharply all over the business world, a shocking new report has uncovered.

According to research by Microsoft, RSI injuries have soared by over 30 per cent in the last year alone costing businesses an estimated £300m in lost working hours. Interestingly, the rise is being heavily attributed to the rapidly emerging trend of 'mobile working' as employees were discovered to work on the move for an average of an hour more per day - good old technology!

Off the back of this MS then polled more than 1,000 office workers, HR managers and office managers and discovered we are completely clueless about the situation with 68 per cent of workers claiming to have suffered from RSI-related aches and pains without realising there was any recourse (there is a legal precedent for libel action).

Conversely 76 per cent of HR Managers were said to be aware of the problem but 68 per cent admitted to doing nothing about it, even when employees reported problems.

Naturally enough there comes a self interest angle in all this and that is Microsoft is going to start heavily pushing its ergonomic range of keyboards (the Natural Ergonomic [above] and Comfort lines) and mice (notably the Natural Laser Mouse 6000 and its wireless version[above, right] ) as well as monitor and laptop stands, footrests and ergonomic chairs (the last of these I can particularly recommend).

So try this on with the boss...
...and bosses, prepare to be deluged with lawsuits requests.
