Swatch In Talks To Make TFL Oyster Watch

Just two months after Transport for London (TFL) announced plans to introduce contactless Oyster Card payments through our mobile phones, the inefficiently run, poorly performing, price hiking travel body has decided it wants our watches to perform the same trick.
According to BrandRepublic, the decision has been made after TFL successfully trialled the system with its own 500 strong staff over the past six months. It is now in discussions with multiple watch manufacturers (including the ever popular Swatch) to secure an official launch partner, though no timeframe has been put on a consumer release.
Of course the move to integrate Oyster technology into commercial products isn't new. Barclay's 'Barclaycard One' credit card, for instance, already combines this functionality while also acting as a standard credit card (imagine the double terror in losing that...). Furthermore, O2 and Nokia have been its formal partners in its Oyster mobile phone tests.
Personally, I'd bet on TFL getting its watch based scheme out the door before compatible mobile phones appear. Then again, if anyone is capable making us endure nigh-endless delays it's TFL...
