Sony has gone webcam crazy this week with the launch of the first official units for both its PlayStation 3 and PSP.

Dealing with the incredibly expensive and powerful PS3 first, we have the 'Eye' – a cam primarily designed for gaming. As such it places more focus on clear audio with a large noise cancelling four way microphone than it does on the bandwidth hogging image quality which is limited to a fairly standard 640 x 480 resolution at up to 60fps.

Saying that, it does comes equipped with two lens modes, the first for close ups and the second for a wider angle view. It will appear sometime this summer, but Sony hasn't yet said for how much.

As for the PSP, it is the recipient of the 'Go!Cam' – a peripheral that appears to be fashioned from a Terminator endoskeleton – and will enable users to take photos and record movie clips. Unfortunately, Sony hasn't given away the resolution of the Go!Cam (a rather important piece of information, I think you'd agree?) but it has revealed a 4GB Memory Stick Duo card would enable it to record up to 160 minutes of video or shoot 40,000 photos (I'll let you do the maths).

On top of this the cam itself will be able to swivel vertically up to 180 degrees and it comes with a built in mic. It will come with photo and video editing software which can also be used to upload content onto the web.

The Go!Cam will be spied across Europe from 16 May for £34.99 and I'm sure you'll find many interesting uses for it...
