Wireless has long been touted as the breakthrough technology that will revolutionise our lives and eliminate cable clutter, but – laptop networking aside – the products based on it haven’t really blown our socks off. Until now…

French high end acoustic guru Elipson and Bluetooth specialist Parrot have teamed up to create what they claim will be the first wireless speakers to do justice to audio screened by even the most demanding of ears.

The ‘Elipson Planets’ may remain unchanged from the company’s traditional outer design but inside they feature a custom built Bluetooth 2.0 wireless module with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) from Parrot which enables each speaker to automatically detect one another when switched on then pair and couple.

As for the acoustics themselves the Planets offer a two way 60W bass reflect sound image per channel and integrated Class D digital amplifier. A seven band equaliser, frequency range of 40 to 20,000Hz, MP3 decoder up to 192kbps and SBC decoder up to 320kbps also are specified along with PC software for tuning (power, balance R/L, mute) and updates.

Furthermore, the speakers are equipped with both digital and analogue lines enabling them to receive and broadcast from not only traditional sources like tuners and amps but also all A2DP Bluetooth stereo equipped devices like PCs, MP3 players and mobile phones.

The Elipson Planets went on sale at the back end of last month while we were knocking back brandy and mince pies. They come with a suitably elitist price tag of 999 euros per pair and are available in either black or white finishes.

If you can afford them I officially hate you.
