Corsair Moves Into PSUs

I had second thoughts about writing this story because the last time I covered a PSU Spode got so excited it took me three months of counselling to recover. I’m just going to have to step into my happy place however because Corsair’s diversified.



After forging a formidable reputation in the memory market the global giant has announced plans to ruffle feathers on new turf and its beginning at the top. The HX620W and HX520W are the first two models from its debut HX Series which is targeting high performance PCs, gaming systems, audio/video workstations and file servers.

Both PSUs feature modular cabling so superfluous cables can be removed to minimise clutter and improve airflow. As the names suggest they come in 620W and 520W variants and swear down to deliver continuous fully rated output with solid triple +12V rails for a combined maximum output rating of 50Amp (40Amp on the 520W) even at 50 degrees C ambient temperature (Oh no, I’ll need to hide this from Spode).

Furthermore gamers rejoice since each PSU has native support for dual graphics, include two PCI Express cables and are compatible with Crossfire and SLI. The final cherries on top of two rather enticing cakes is the 120mm double ball bearing fan which Corsair boasts has ‘whisper quiet operation’.

The CMPSU-620HX and CMPSU-520HX (to give them their full titles) are out any minute but Corsair, the little rascal, chose not to supply me with pricing. I’ll work on getting that and – in preparation of Spode’s lustful reaction – I’ll work on getting back to my happy place too.
