Microsoft Releases First Laser Mouse

When exclusive rights to the laser technology Logitech used in its fabulous MX1000 expired it was always likely that we’d see a rush of precious pretenders. This is true to a certain extent, but the real competition hadn’t begun until old Microsoft thundered into the fray.

Available separately or as part of a desktop combo, the descriptively titled Laser Mouse 6000 fills a gaping hole in Evil Lord Redmond’s arsenal. It comes equipped with the company’s “Intelligent Tracking System” which improves the obvious, 1,000 DPI and 6,000FPS. A whole host of functions are built into the device, including a magnifier tool, four way scrolling tilt wheel, assignable buttons and a gaming toggle button enables multiple key sequences to be programmed to a single click.

A wired version of the 6000 will be available in October priced $54.95, with a wireless version following shortly afterwards for a more chunky $74.95. The desktop combo edition with matching keyboard will set you back around $105. For likely UK prices just make them two-thirds of the dollar amount, that’s how it tends to work these days.
