Gigabyte Makes Splash With Water Cooler

It may be more known for its extensive line up of motherboards and graphics cards, but Gigabyte has decided to take the plunge with its first liquid cooling system.

The “3D Galaxy” is designed for the PC hardcore brigade and will work with both AMD and Intel processors. It uses a thick half inch tube and water pump (which circulates an impressive 400 litres per hour) to carry heat away from the CPU, graphics card and mobo while a super size radiator and 12cm adjustable fan disperse the heat from the system. A second fan sits above the CPU block (top right on the picture) to blow cool air over the motherboard.

Gigabyte says the Galaxy was built for overclockers, but with the fan capable of slowing to just 1200rpm it should suit main stream users too. The Galaxy will be out in next month and we’ll update you with UK pricing details on this interesting foray as soon as they are made available.

Pedantic Question: Why does Gigabyte keep putting the term “3D” in front of its coolers? It’s not like they're for graphics cards only, and besides, what else could they be… 2D? (Maybe I should just be thankful it’s not called the “iGalaxy”, “3DGlxy”, “Gal-X-Y” or some such nonsense)
