Creative, masters of all things audio, has decided to show its prowess with all things video. Step forward the Audigy 2 ZS Video Editor.

The latest edition to the high end Audigy family is the first ever Sound Blaster with video editing capabilities. The “ultra sleek” (most definitely their words, not mine) Volvo influenced (they sound more like my words) device offers audio playback, accelerated video editing on the fly and it doubles as a four port USB2.0 hub for good measure.

Taking a closer inspection, what this adds up to is onboard hardware encoding in Mpeg and DV, THX Certified 24bit music playback in up to 7.1 surround sound. There are also connectivity options galore with inputs and outputs for DV, S-Video and composite video which means you can connect up to and preview clips from camcorders, TVs, VCRs and just about anything else you can think of.

A clever trick the ZS VE has up its sleeve is that any content it edits can be converted back to its original source and played back through a camcorder, TV or VCR.
