Lenovo didn't exactly wow with the IdeaCentre C100 - it was a little too similar to every other Atom-based all-in-one out there - but what of another Lenovo new addition, the IdeaCentre Q700? Well, that's looking altogether more interesting.


Billed as able to "fit anywhere in your home" thanks to its compact dimensions, the Q700 is intended be a one-stop replacement for a personal computer, media centre and games console. I'm not sure that gaming is exactly going to be a staple diet of the Q700 with its 2.5GHz (admittedly dual-core) Pentium E5200 CPU and Intel integrated X4500 graphics, but for all other uses performance should be more than good enough. Better, certainly, than any Atom-based alternative. 4GB of RAM is standard and hard drive options range from 320GB up to 640GB.

A quartet of USB ports at both the front and back (that is, eight in total) complement an eSATA connector and 4-in-1 card reader with Wi-Fi connectivity present. A TV tuner and - importantly for any would-be HTPC - HDMI output are featured, though Lenovo might arguably have missed a trick on not at least offering Blu-ray as an optional upgrade to the standard DVD drive.

Currently available only on its US site, Lenovo has the Q700 priced from $499 (~£300) which seems pretty reasonable.

I'd rather same the money to go towards much rumoured Apple iTablet - if it exists...

It looks pretty good though. Perfect for bedroom or business users...
