Having already given us an updated imedia desktop range it's not surprising to see Packard Bell giving its higher end system -the iextreme - a similar makeover.

Inside all is pretty much as is to be expected for a performance-orientated desktop. Processor choices are comprehensive: AMD Phenom X4 II, Core 2 Quad and Core i7 all on offer. Up to 12GB of RAM and 3TB of storage can be specced although graphics options top out slightly disappointingly with the nVidia GeForce GTS 250 - hardly a bad card, but faster options would be welcome.

Externally Packard Bell touts a "sleek glossy black chassis," although such styling is obviously rather subjective. Less reliant on personal preference to be called commendable are 10 USB, two eSATA and three Firewire ports as well as a multi-card reader and the option of a Blu-ray drive. Wi-fi connectivity can be added as can a DVB-T tuner.

Pricing will start from £600; although as ever with such systems, you'll have no trouble upping that if you want a properly pimped out machine.
