TrustedReviews NewslettersPlayStation 3 owners will be pleased to hear that the latest firmware update - 2.7 - has hit the console. The updates aren't exactly revolutionary, but one in particular in definitely welcome.
That much wanted feature - at least I know I want it - is a Dynamic Normaliser for music playback. While the addition of Playlists was great, the lack of volume levelling on CDs when ripped to the console does, or rather did, lead to some annoying jumps in playback volume from track to track; the elimination of which I am particularly pleased to see.
Text chat has been added allowing communication between up to 16 Friends both in-game and out. Paid-for video content can now be backed up to an external drive - a feature that should really have been available since the addition of such content.
The PS3's browser now supports copy and paste - take that iPhone users still waiting for 3.0 - and there are quick-selection options to grab page and link addresses which is a nice touch. Web filtering options now sit more logically under Browser Security rather than Bookmarks.
Other changes include sorting Friends by their online status and an increase from 1Mb to 3MB for message attachments. Internet searches for games (from the triangle button options list) give a direct link to - oddly enough - a 'net search for further information about that game - great…
