Acer's ION-based Nettop Full Specs Leaked

If there are two relatively inexpensive products that have had a profound effect on the market recently, they're netbooks and the Wii.

As we told you about before, Acer has had the brilliant idea of combining the two into a single device snazzily named the Hornet - though if an anonymous source over at Engadget is correct, only one of the planned SKUs will come with a Wii-remote-like controller.

Using nVidia's pretty cool ION platform, all of the proposed systems should have no trouble running Full HD content and even the odd game of low-res World of Warcraft, despite using underpowered Atom 230 CPUs.

Standard:

Deluxe:

• 2GB RAM
• 160GB hard drive

Media Center:

• 2GB RAM
• 160GB hard drive
• Vista Home Premium + Boxshell instant-on OS
• Wireless mouse and keyboard
• Optional webcam
• WiFi as standard
• Wii-remote equivalent included

The first two systems will be made available in blue, while the Media Center Hornet's colour is still to be decided - though we're sure if the product is successful we'll end up seeing more shades.

There's also an optional VESA mount for hiding the rather attractive Hornet behind your monitor or television. Best of all, unlike the insect/fighter jet it's named after it'll run at an inaudible 25dB.

If we're lucky and get a direct dollar-pound price conversion (don't hold your breath on this), we should see the Hornet costing between £100 and £200 depending on configuration. Even if it's a bit more than this, I can't wait to order Acer's Media Center Hornet - if it comes out in black *wink*.
