Asus Unveils 4GHz Quad Core, Triple GTX 280 Monster

Just four days after announcing one of the smallest, most compact and affordable desktop PCs ever made Asus has shown it also has a taste for the opposite end of the market...

The 'ARES CG6155' is the most extreme PC seen to date and it backs up its Transformer armour-inspired* design with a technical specification likely to secure you secure bragging rights until, well... next week at least.

Built around an NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI base, the ARES starts as it means to go on with a 3GHz Intel quad-core Extreme QX9650 CPU supplied with overclocking tools to take it to 4GHz, 8GB of DDR3 RAM and a GeForce GTX 280 3-Way SLI graphics card. Oh yes, we're off and running all right!

Backing this up is the potential for 4TB (uh huh, I said four terabytes) of storage, a custom liquid cooling system and no less than two power supplies and two gigabit Ethernet ports. Naturally enough you'll also see a Blu-ray drive in there as well and Asus is good enough to equip the ARES with a gaming keyboard, mouse, mouse pad and headset, though the monitor is an optional extra.

How much will this true goliath of a system set you back? Let's just say Asus hasn't dropped that bombshell yet and if I suspect that old saying stands true: If you have to ask...

For those with the necessary mullah, we do think it could generate 1.21 gigawatts.

* Or as Hugo spots, Acer Pedator-inspired since - while not identical - the two are remarkably similar.
