TrustedReviews NewslettersWe've been privy to all sorts of details on the upcoming 'Eee Box' , the desktop equivalent of the Eee PC, but now Asus has made a few of those details official.
Starting with the specs it will of course be powered by an Intel Atom N270, running at 1.6GHz. This will be supported by 1GB of RAM, while storage comes in the shape of an 80GB standard mechanical drive. You'll be able to supplement this storage with memory cards, with support for SD, SDHC, MS, MS Pro and MMC card formats.
It'll come with Windows XP as standard and network connectivity will come in the form of 802.11n Wi-Fi, for faster wireless transfer speeds, and Gigabit Ethernet. In its press material Asus was keen to talk up the environmental credentials of the Eee Box, with the machine being made out of "earth-friendly" materials - though what this constitutes isn't stipulated.
Another key feature are noise levels, or the lack thereof. Asus quote a very quiet 26 decibels and having reviewed the Eee PC 901 recently and been impressed by its near silence, it's a figure we could very easily believe.
Finally, Asus was unable to confirm pricing details for the UK, but we were able, from our own sources, to find out that the first Eee Boxes will be available sometime in August. So, make a note in your calendars and check back here for more details.

Asus will have a sure hit if they release a box with:
- 5 Ethernet ports
- without that stupid stand
- without XP for less money or with more RAM/HDD

Yes, I second the call for the box to be sold for cheaper without an OS. As for the stand, I hope it is removable. BTW, anyone know if Windows Server will run on the Atom processor... more
