Evesham Launches Oxegen PC Range

Evesham isn't exactly a brand associated with high-end desktop systems. However, following recent financial difficulties the company decided that the performance market was where it wanted to head, possibly because of the larger margins. To that effect it has today launched the Oxegen series of gaming PCs and no, that name isn't a typo.

In a similar style to that of Commodore, Evesham is offering standard off-the-shelf components at stock speeds. Unlike its competitors, however, with the Oxegen this also extends to the case, which is a standard Coolermaster iTower. Of course, this means you don't get the strange feet of the HP Blackbird or crazy alien heads that adorn Alienware PCs but then some of us don't want that sort of thing.

Three models are available in the series. Starting with the base-spec SX1000, you'll be asked to lay out £999 for a Q6600, 2GB 6677MHz RAM, an nVidia 256MB 8500GT, 500GB hard drive, and a 22in widescreen Viewsonic monitor. In the middle sits the SX5000, which has the same specs as the SX1000, but packs in dual 8600GTs at the base spec.

The bottom of the top-end SX9000 (so to speak) boats a QX6700, dual nVidia 8800GTS 320MBs in Sli, and a 24in Viewsonic screen. Obviously there are different options for components across the range and prices will vary accordingly.

As a nice touch, the option to choose between either Vista or XP wont affect your price, so you can choose, basically, either stability of DirectX 10 support. The major downside of the Oxegen range is that systems such as the Commodore offer similar specs for a similar price, but also give the option of having a little personalisation, with C-Kins and so forth. Still, more competition on the market is never a bad thing.
