It has taken long enough, but HP has finally made good on its purchase of VoodooPC with a new gaming system that looks absolutely stunning both on the inside and outside. Summoned by enchanters from the depths of some unknown dimension the Blackbird shares a name with what is indisputably the finest piece of aerospace engineering in history, namely the Lockheed Martin SR-71. Not only do the two machines share a name, but the HP machine is likewise the fastest and best looking produced by the company to date.

Drawing myself away from the design for a moment, the internals of the Blackbird are equally impressive, as one would expect. Unsurprisingly for such a high end system, the processor and graphics card (or cards) will be water cooled to allow overclocking to their limits to provide the best experience possible for your (huge wad of) bucks.

Speaking of which, the components in question can be chosen from a huge range of off-the-shelf products to allow customers to have their system built as they would themselves but without the hassle of actually doing so. So to that effect you should see a full range of Intel Core 2 Quad and Dual processors, DDR2 and DDR3 RAM available depending on preference and the option of either super-fast Raptor hard drives or flash options as desired.

The only snag is that the Blackbird 002 isn't planned to be released in the UK any time soon, after speaking to HP reps we can reassure you that this isn't because HP doesn't think us Brits deserve such a gorgeous system, but because the VoodooPC infrastructure it has inherited simply isn't large enough to cope with international orders as well as US sales. Or in other words, have a little patience. Considering the price will range from $2,500 to over $7,000 depending on spec, the wait should mean that we might be able to afford one by the time it does reach UK shores.
