It is a product launch that is sure to throw an entire litter of malnourished killer kitties amongst a plump flock of pigeons. Microsoft’s Windows OneCare arrives in June.

The all-in-one antivirus and anti-spyware software has been in beta testing since July and has had largely positive feedback, but the company says it will accept no more beta testers after the end of April in view of its launch.

If OneCare interests you it may well be worth downloading now too, since testers will receive a significant discount on the final product. An annual subscription fee of $50 will be reduced to just $20 for the first year of service. That said, even if the idea of installing unfinished software makes you all shivery inside, the full $50 price – though I hate to admit it – isn’t half bad since it covers three PCs and all future programme updates and revisions.

If you are of a more daring persuasion you can grab the current beta of OneCare here, a final beta of the software will be released at the end of the month. For a full round-up of all the features that make up OneCare (which also includes Windows Defender) check back to my earlier piece here.

Norton, McAfee et al must be so pleased they are Microsoft 'partners' right about now…!?!
