If you want to know how sexy Elonex media centres are just ask Riyad. He has been a huge fan since getting his hands on the first pre-production Lumina over a year ago. It is also a sad fact that many PC makers still have no idea how to build a decent media centre and with this latest model Elonex continues to rub their face in it.

The Lumina 3 series takes what the old model did best then upgrades it. 32in and 40in models will be available sporting widescreen displays with 1366 x 768 high def resolutions, 15ms response times, super bright 1000:1 contrast ratios and 450cd/m2 brightness ratings.

Inside and things again pair up nicely with the two models each packing ‘Viiv compatible’ Intel Core Duo processors on a 945GM chipset, a gig of 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM and an nVidia GeForce 6600 LE graphics card packing 256MB of VRAM. Analogue TV tuners are integrated into the panels with digital ones built into the PC. Slot loading DVD+/-RW drives keep the format factor tight and up to half a terabyte of SATA II hard drive space is on offer. Connectivity is its usual everything-including-the-kitchen-sink self with 802.11a/b/g and Gigabit Ethernet the obvious show stealers.

Finally, prices have come down a little since the last generation of Lumina was in our trembling mitts with the 32 inch model given a rather reasonable RRP of £2,599 and the 40incher not far behind it in the value stakes at £3,299. Both tags include VAT and they’ll hit retail outlets from mid-February.

There’s not a person on the planet you couldn’t make jealous by buying either one of these two (especially Riyad), so if you can afford the outlay what are you waiting for? Apart from about 15 days obviously…
