There’s an old saying about “An Apple a day…” but four? After the hullabaloo that has greeted the (video) iPod and a revamped iTunes 6, we still have two more to go: upgraded iMacs and a new remote control multimedia interface.

Available in stunning 17 and 20in widescreen models, the new iMacs certainly take the breath away. For a start they’re thinner (Jobs actually claims the new 20 incher is narrower than the old 17in) and they’ve got more horsepower with the choice of 1.9 or 2.1GHz G5 processors, ATI Radeon X600 Pro or XT graphics cards with 128MB VRAM and a revised high bandwidth system architecture.

A mighty mouse is thrown in and, of course, Tiger is preinstalled and now there is also Front View, a Windows Media style multimedia interface which is essentially like an expanded iTunes with video, audio and photo access options against a stylised back background. It can be controlled via keyboard and mouse or using the new Shuffle-esque Apple Remote. Prices start from just £899 for a stripped down 17incher and it’ll be interesting to see how many converts it makes, given the lukewarm reception to Windows MCE.

Personally, my bet is a lot more than Evil Lord Redmond managed…
