There is a tendency at the moment with PCs to think FASTER, BETTER, MORE, but for those with a little more sophistication you’ll enjoy Shuttle’s latest.

The XPC SD11G5 (a totally unsuitable name for such a beauty so I’m going to call it Sienna because of her “honourable silence” recently) is the company’s swanky attempt at a virtually noiseless PC. Designed with a loving K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Silent), Shuttle has managed to create in Sienna a system with less than 24dB output. By comparison, typical Shuttle XPCs run at 32dB with standard PCs measuring around 40dB.

As you might expect for such a design, Sienna is a low power Pentium M based machine utilising an Intel 915GM chipset. She isn’t short of power though as she packs in a PCI Express interface and advanced features such as a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit EAX High Def 7.1 audio card and DDR2 533 memory support. A Silent X 220W external PSU helps keep the acoustics low.

Sienna won’t be cheap at 416 euros, though Shuttle assures us she will be “coming soon”, which should get the hordes excited.
