Now ThinkCentres Go Dual Core

As everyone knows, when Lenovo bought IBM’s computing division it pretty much guaranteed itself a run of top notch products for the next 12 months. After that the real test begins but, until then, here are the company’s first ThinkCentre desktops.

As well as being the first “Lenovo“ ThinkCentres (like the [linkout:http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?art=1488 X41Tablet, they still carry IBM branding), the M52 and A52 are also the first dual core compatible machines to grace the famous range. This is possible because both machines are built around the Intel 945G chipset (which is also compatible with the Pentium single core lines) and has the added benefit of high definition audio.

Like all ThinkCentres, the M52 and A52 are fully customisable should you wish to add a specific amount of RAM or use an alternative to the integrated Media Accelerator 950 graphics and, interestingly, they come in two factors. The first is the standard tower (seen above), but the second is a kind of retro styled mini tower (below) which cuts down the size by 40 per cent.

On the software side of things the usual “IBM” thoroughness still applies. ThinkVantage deployment software, the Embedded Security Subsystem hardware encryption technology and the Rescue and Recovery backup solution all remain in place after the buyout, while each model is officially “Longhorn ready”.

Expect to see both the A52 and M52 out in the second half of this year, which (according to my trusty calendar) starts tomorrow.
