You took away Plasma, but now have given me faith. Lets hope you can deliver a screen that will knock the socks of other LCD's

No content, TV broadcasting in most countries is probably a decade away, you'll need new hardware like Bluray, amps etc that support 4K, so real cost of ownership is huge for almost zero return. Still way too expensive, also uses much more energy than regular FHD panel, similar to plasma. Needs another 2 years at least to make any sense.

I have just bought a zt65 (two weeks ago), and have to say, it is an absolutely awesome screen. Amazing to think they may have come anywhere near it with an lcd.

I've had my 1080p Pioneer Kuro TV since 2008. I don't think buying a panel a couple years earlier than 4K is widespread matters. It'll come, and you'll still have the awesome TV. Your put down is pointless.

Not quite as pointless as yours though. Maybe you like paying exorbitant amounts for (currently) useless technology just to impress your friends.

It will be even more than a decade to get 4K broadcast. There really are no serious initiatives to do this anywhere in that time frame. Even if it is broadcast, most viewers use satellite or cable which will be loathe to provide the bandwidth needed to support this resolution. 4K is a computer screen resolution, not a TV resolution IMHO.

I did a fair amount of work on structured backlights years ago with Lorne Whitehead of UBC. Lorne's HDR system was sold to Dolby and is the basis of the Panny LCD patch shown here. Much improved over edge lit, but just try to watch a fireworks display or a starry night scene.

Sounds like This could be the SHARP invented IGZO panel since Panasonic doesn't produce LCD panels. there are some laptops with IGZO which looks amazing way different than typical LCD in terms of color and black level

> ... a decade to get 4K broadcast.
Japan will have it, maybe Korea; the USA could (Advertisers subsidize).

These TVs hook up to the Internet, and your Computer.

YouTube has had 4K Video for more than a year, so has your Computer.

4K may well bring back 3D.

What IS certain is that they are unlikely to introduce a LOWER resolution Standard or 1D TV to suit your needs. If you allow the Rich to purchase 4K (without cutting it down) then it will be less expensive for you next year (and may have more features too).

Next we will hear "Why buy an i7, it is too powerful"; but who says that ?

The old uses more power argument. Haha what a joke makes me chuckle every time I hear it. Do you even realize the amount of money you are complaining about in energy cost.
