1st Place: Philips 42PFL9664 42in LCD TVUnlike the Philips 42PFL7404 bagging third place in our Best sub-£1,000 TV category, the 42PFL9664 does have the very latest Philips Perfect Pixel HD processing engine. And although as usual you have to take care about how you use its fearsome power, this engine really is a massive improvement on previous generations, delivering arguably the single most memorable picture quality we've seen from a new TV this year.
The fact that it's got outstanding audio and an endless feature count, including built in Wi-Fi, full Internet access and a 'stereo' version of the companies fancy Ambilight Spectra system, doesn't do it any harm either.

2nd Place: Samsung Series 8 UE46B8000 46in LCD TVAlthough the big talking point about Samsung's 46in UE46B8000 LCD TV is its amazing sub-30mm depth, for us it's the ground-breaking picture quality it achieves from its edge-based LED backlight technology that really makes it special.
It did take a bit of tweaking to get the pictures we wanted, but once we had nailed them this TV certainly impressed us. Couple this performance with its huge connections roster and it's clear why the Samsung Series 8 UE46B8000 earns a well-deserved runner-up spot.

3rd Place: Panasonic Viera TX-P58V10 58in Plasma TVAlthough we were severely torn between this TV and Sony's new KDL-40Z5800 Freesat TV, in the end the sheer cinematic splendour of this 58in monster won the day. Thanks to its premium colour processing, excellent black levels and immaculate, cinematic sharpness, it's an HD movie machine par excellence.
