New Star Wars trailer analysis and reaction

Just when you thought Star Wars mania was reaching its peak, a new international trailer for The Force Awakens drops. And it’s amazing.

The trailer is full of as yet unseen new clips, leaving stunned fans unable to utter much more than the word ‘epic’ in comments sections throughout the internet.

Watch the trailer, which is probably the best one we’ve had yet, below and read on for our analysis of the best new scenes.

Beginning with new hero Rey (Daisy Ridley) trekking through the desert of her home planet with the BB-8 droid, the tone of the clip quickly shifts as soon as this ominous scene fills the screen.

Yep, those are Tie Fighters, presumably en route to destroy Rey and her cohorts, signalling the return of the Empire and the point at which the trailer starts to shift into awesome mode.

Straight after this we’re treated to this over-zealous storm trooper torching fleeing civilians and generally having the time of his life.

It looks as though a full scale assault by the Empire on Rey’s home-town is in store, which will probably act as the catalyst for the rest of the film’s narrative.

In between an alarming amount of chatter about changing underwear, fans also continue to speculate over the fact that villain Kylo Ren refers to finishing ‘our destiny’ when talking to Darth Vader’s disfigured helmet, which has previously prompted theories about Kylo being a Skywalker himself.

In this scene we see Rey menaced by Kylo and his controversial crossguard lightsaber, which fans have noted looks to have a distinctly ‘frizzy’ appearance, pointing to a confrontation between the two characters that doesn’t look like it goes too well for Rey.

Any new Chewie footage is good even if it’s only a few seconds, which is why our brief glimpse of him hitting a detonator and dealing major damage to some unsuspecting individuals in a control room is one of our favourite new parts.

The trailer has prompted a predictably frenzied response on social media.
