Favourite Direct LED-Lit LCD TVs

Two of our current favourite direct LED-lit LCD TVs:

Philips 46PFL9704 review

By coupling its legendary (if tricky to optimise) picture processing power with direct LED technology, Philips has created arguably the best LCD picture quality yet. A cracking design and huge feature count (including full Internet access) don’t hurt, either. There’s no Freeview HD tuner, though!

LG Infinia 55LX9900 review

With the 3D-capable 55in 55LX9900 LG has somehow delivered direct LED picture quality from a TV so slender it’s hard to believe it doesn’t use edge LED technology.

It’s hugely laden with features, too, and its 2D picture quality is outstanding, easily the best LG has delivered to date. Its 3D images are OK too, but suffer the inevitable (with LCD) crosstalk ghosting.

LED advantages

Good for the Environment: It’s no secret that LEDs are earth-friendly. They consume less electricity, emit fewer greenhouse gases, contain no harmful Mercury, almost all components are 100% recyclable, and are safer to use because cooler operation means less (or NO) fire hazard.
