As you can see from the quality of the runners-up, picking the three prize winners this month was a very difficult task, and I wish we could reward more of the superb entries we received, but after much deliberation we were able to narrow the choice down to the three pictures shown here.
We only received a couple of shots that included people, but one was this brilliant and unusual portrait from Emilee Keil of Plymouth, Minnesota, USA. Taken using a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (EOS 400D), the model's gorgeous red hair blends in perfectly with the Autumn colours of the leaves. Emiliee wins a 1GB PNY Compact Flash card and a £25 voucher from Photobox.
Sometimes a simple shot is all it takes, as proven by this stunning photo from Mark Williams of Kettering, UK, taken on his Panasonic FZ5. The blast of light and colour in this late afternoon shot almost hides the fact that it is also a carefully composed image with superbly metered exposure. Mark wins a 1GB PNY SD card and a £25 voucher from Photobox.
Our first prize winner this month is this beautiful and atmospheric photograph from Darren Athersmith of Cumbria, UK. Using his Nikon D40, Darren shows what can be accomplished using careful metering and composition. A 0.4 second exposure at f11 has captured the light and colour of this lakeside scene to perfection, and Darren is the deserving winner of a 2GB PNY Compact Flash card and a £50 voucher from Photobox.
Many thanks to all our entrants, and congratulations to Emilee, Mark and Darren, whose prizes will be on their way shortly. Remember that our December competition is currently open, with the theme of Celebrations, so why not enter and show us what you can do? Please read the rules and submission requirements at the link above first though.
