The battle to replace our wallets may soon be joined by another tech giant, with LG thought to be preparing its own solution.
The company has filed for a trademark with the USPTO for GPay, a new technology listed under the smartwatches and mobile devices category.
While the filing (via VentureBeat) offers nothing in the way of detail, it doesn’t take much to leap to the conclusion LG plans to follow Samsung, Apple and Google into the mobile payments sector.
The latest tech space race began following the launch of Apple Pay in October last year, following failed attempts from Google to jumpstart the new NFC-based arena.
While LG could naturally take advantage of Android Pay through its smartphones and Android Wear watches, it appears the Korean company fancies a piece of the potentially-lucrative pie for itself.

The company is yet to comment on the reports, but the mobile payments arena might be seeing another major name added before too much longer.
