Everything we know about Gears of War 4
Developed by Microsoft's first-party studio The Coalition, Gears of War 4 marks the beginning of a second trilogy with new enemies, threats and environments to be discovered.
Old favourites such as Marcus Fenix make a return, as do the dastardly Locust threat from previous games. Of course, it wouldn't be a sequel without some new enemies to deal with, and some gnarly new weapons to obliterate them.
We've gathered together everything you need to know about Gears of War 4, so be sure to check back here for more information.
Gears of War 4 Release Date – When is it coming out?
Gears of War 4 will launch on October 11, 2016 for Xbox One and Windows 10.
It will also be available as part of Microsoft's new Xbox Play Anywhere service. This allows you play games on both Xbox One and Window 10 so long as you own one copy on either platform.
Microsoft has confirmed that Gears of War 4 will launch alongside a season pass, because of course it will. The digital pass will cost £40, bundling together all planned downloadable content for a single price.
The season pass will grant you access to 24 multiplayer maps and a selection of exclusive content packs that feature new weapons, skins and abilities.

Gears of War 4 Story – What’s it about?
A recent Game Informer article has given us new insight into the narrative Gears 4 will tell. Primarily, the game will focus on three key characters, one of which will be Marcus Fenix's son, JD. The Coalition also confirmed that the game is set 25 years after the events of Gears 3, with the aim to explore a different vision of Sera, with new enemies and locations. You can have a look at JD and fellow main character, Delmont 'Del' Walker in some new concept art that was published on Polygon.
The E3 2015 demo only showed a couple of quadruped beasties with massive mouths filled with teeth and tendrils, but gave no indication as to whether they’re the main adversaries in Gears 4. Here’s hoping there’s a large smorgasbord of bad guys to blast through.
Marcus Fenix is back, as revealed by the E3 2016 trailer. He's old, bearded and probably a bit grumpy with all the monsters hanging around. Chances are he is bound to play a prominent role in the narrative alongside our new heroes.

Gears of War 4 Gameplay – How does it play?
It appears that Gears of War 4 maintains the tried-and-true formula from previous games, refining the experience with subtle improvements and new mechanics. Players can expect to blast their way through a set-piece heavy campaign filled with addictive cover shooting and atmospheric enemies. We've already seen a selection of new weapons and abilities present in the game, including some gnarly executions and ranged projectile combat.
The single-player campaign can be played solo or co-operatively across Xbox One and Windows 10 via crossplay. The same functionality also applies to the game's new horde mode, Horde 3.0. Details on this new mode are light at the moment, but we can expect to it revitalise the brilliant wave-based action the franchise is renown for.
The immensely popular Horde mode from previous games is back, this time in the form of Horde Mode 3.0. The Coalition has enhanced the wave-based mode with the addition of several unique classes, all of which will play a role in your team's eventual success. The classes available at launch include: Sniper, Engineer, Soldier, Scout and Heavy. It's safe to assume that all of these roles will have their own specific abilities, designed in such a way to ensure you and your team are always working together. Horder Mode 3.0 will once again pit you against 50 waves of ferocious enemies across a selection of maps.
