This year’s E3 was undoubtedly the biggest in years. Microsoft brought Natal, newly redubbed Kinect, a new Gears of War and a new Xbox 360. Sony came with PlayStation Move and a vision of 3D gaming that actually had some substance behind it. Nintendo, meanwhile, quietly stole the show with the groundbreaking 3DS handheld, and a strong software line-up that threatens to revitalize the Wii.
It was a good E3 for publishers, too. Electronic Arts revealed new versions of old favourites and games that played to the strengths of each console, while Ubisoft, Bethesda, Square-Enix, Konami, Capcom, Disney and Sega all had big, blockbuster titles to display. And somehow Activision, who weren’t even exhibiting on the show floor, made a splash with new titles in the Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed series'.
Basically, if you love games, this year’s E3 was a treat. Missed the news? Don’t worry. It’s time for a hands-on trip through the highlights of E3.
