Photo Competition - September Winners

The Winners

Our three prize winners this month are a good cross-section of the widely varied nationalities of this month's entrants. Our first is this simple but evocative journalistic photo from Mojca Cvirn of Maribor, Slovenia. It may be "just" a snapshot, but it perfectly captures the spontaneity of the moment. Mojca used a Canon EOS 40D with a 17-55mm lens at 31mm, 1/400th of a second at f/2.8 and ISO 125, and wins a Panasonic Lumix FX40 compact camera and a SanDisk CompactFlash card and Imagemate All-In-One card reader to go with the 40D.

Another very talented regular wins our second prize this month, although it's not his first time for that either. Partha Pal is another Kolkata-based photographer, and has a keen eye for a striking shot. This one was taken at a Camel Fair in Pushkar, Rajasthan. The girls in their colourful swirling dresses were dancing with music. Partha took the shot on his Canon EOS 30D using a 17-40 f/4 L USM lens, ISO 400, 1/200th sec at f/10. HE wins a SanDisk CompactFlash card and Imagemate All-In-One card reader and a Panasonic Lumix FT1 waterproof and shockproof compact camera, which hopefully this time won't get held up at customs!

Having seen pictures from all over the planet, our top prize winner this month is almost a neighbour from right here in Devon. You can practically hear the music in this superb shot of a blues saxophone player from Tom Nash of Sandford, Crediton. Captured hand-held on a Nikon D200 with a 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 VR lens at 1/20th of a second and f/5.6, the result is a pin-sharp shot in very low light; quite a feat, and well deserving of a Panasonic Lumix LX3 compact camera, and a SanDisk CompactFlash card and Imagemate All-In-One card reader.

Once again, many thanks to all our entrants this month, and congratulations to Mojca, Partha and Tom. Special thanks also to our generous sponsors for Panasonic and SanDisk, without whom this competition would not be possible. Keep an eye out for the next round of our photography competition starting at the beginning of November, with some great new prizes to be won!
