Digital Photography Competition - March

It's March already, which means that for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere Spring is nearly upon us, bringing longer days, brighter sunshine and better photography weather, unless you live in the UK, where it just means that the rain gets a bit warmer. Of course all you southern hemisphere readers have Autumn to look forward to, which holds its own photographic treats. Either way you've got no excuse for not getting out and about with your camera, so here's this month's photography competition to give you some ideas of what to shoot.

The Competition

In case you haven't seen our photography competition before, here's a quick recap of the details and the prizes on offer. Each month we provide a theme for your photographs and a closing date, and it is your task to go out and take photographs that match that theme, and then send them to us before the deadline. At the end of the month myself and the rest of the TR editorial team - most of whom are keen photographers - will study the entries and pick the winners based on our judgement. The best entries will be shown on the site at the end of the month.

There will be three prize winners each month, and thanks to our generous sponsors we've got some fantastic prizes for you. I hope to have some news later this week about some great new prizes this month, but until I receive confirmation they'll have to remain a tantalizing mystery, and I'll announce an update to this page as soon as I have more news. In the meantime, here are some of our other great prizes to whet your appetite.

The Prizes

For our first prize we are offering one lucky entrant a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2. Currently retailing at over £200, this Editor's Choice program is an essential tool for DLSR owners, with facilities for editing, adjusting and batch processing all types of images, including Raw files. Lightroom 2 is fully compatible with Adobe Photoshop, and can accept Raw files from all current digital SLR and high-end compact cameras. It offers a wealth of creative features for improving and editing your photos. Lightroom 2 is compatible with both Windows XP/Vista and Macintosh OS X 10.4/10.5.

Our two runners-up will each receive a great new product from Adobe, a bundle pack containing Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 for all your photo editing needs, and Premiere Elements 7, one of the best video editing programs on the market. With more and more digital cameras incorporating powerful video recording features, this excellent program is sure to prove useful. This software bundle is currently selling for £113.85. Please note that this software is only compatible with Windows XP or Vista operating systems.

As well as these great prizes from Adobe, our top three entries will all receive a superb two-gigabyte SanDisk Extreme III high speed memory card in the format of their choice, as well as a top-quality SanDisk ImageMate 5-in-1 card reader. SanDisk memory cards come with a limited lifetime warranty, they are used and trusted by professional photographers all over the world and are renowned for their fantastic performance and reliability. The 5-in-1 card reader is a versatile gadget that is ideal for anyone who has to deal with multiple memory card formats. It handles CompactFlash, SD/MMC/SDHC, xD-Picture, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro Duo cards, and connects via USB 2.0 for high speed performance.
