The images from left to right represent the macro test output from the Canon PowerShot G5, Fujifilm FinePix S602 Pro Zoom, Nikon Coolpix 5400, Olympus Camedia C-5050 Zoom and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1.

Canon PowerShot G5
Macro performance was disappointingly below average, capturing a range of 75mm and suffering from slight geometric distortion too.
Fujifilm FinePix S602 Pro Zoom
The S602 Pro can certainly focus extremely close, capturing an image just 34mm wide, but with an above average amount of geometric distortion and decreased sharpness in the corners.
Nikon Coolpix 5400
Macro performance was excellent, capturing a sharp image measuring 36mm across with very little geometric distortion; this result places it among the best of all 5 megapixel / 4X zoom cameras.
Olympus CAMEDIA C-5050 Zoom
Macro performance was excellent, delivering 31mm across its frame using the zoom at mid-range with no distortion to worry about. This ranks it as one of the best 5 megapixel models we tested.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-V1
Macro performance was below average, capturing a range of 76mm although at least its modest distance resulted in no apparent geometric distortion.
