Canon PowerShot A70
Outdoor, the A70 shone, with virtually no compression, resolution or sharpening artefacts to mention. Images were very smooth, yet highly detailed and impressively reproduced tones which other cameras failed to reveal. An excellent real-life result.
Fujifilm FinePix A303 Zoom
Outdoors, the A303 images viewed at 1:1 suffered from visible noise on flat areas like the sky and paving stones. Overall detail was slightly below average compared to other 3 megapixel / 3X zoom cameras.
Nikon Coolpix 3100
Outdoors, the slight softness measured on the resolution test smeared some ultimate details, and viewed at 1:1, several diagonals suffered from slight jagged edges. That said, overall image quality was pleasing.
Olympus {mju} 300
Outdoor images examined at 1:1 revealed numerous jagged edges on diagonals and quite visible noise. Check around the antennas for visible electronic noise which was higher than other 3 megapixel / 3X zoom cameras tested. This noise is hard to spot on prints though.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P72
Outdoor images were very pleasing: smooth yet highly detailed and reproducing tonal detail which many of its rivals missed. There were also very few artefacts to worry about. A very good real-life result.
