Clash of Clans tips and tricks

If you haven’t heard of Clash of Clans, where have you been? It’s easily one of the biggest mobile games in the world, generating roughly £3.2 million per day for developer Supercell. It’s also an addictively good time, combining multiplayer real-time strategy with rewarding base building mechanics as you earn precious gold and elixir to construct the perfect civilization.

Millions have already jumped into Clash of Clans, but if you haven’t, we’ve compiled a few handy tips and tricks to get you started ahead of the competition.

Join a clan

Much like Clash Royale, joining a clan is vital, and a guaranteed way to earn considerable loot and additional bonuses. Up to 50 players can join a single clan, giving you the option to participate in wars that are not only fun, but lead to an abundance of loot.

Friendly players can hide in your castle and defend it from any enemies attacking your base. This will make losses less frustrating whilst also decreasing your chances of being invaded as a newcomer.

Perfect your village layout

You can choose to construct your village however you like, but it’s important to protect vital resources and buildings if you want to survive. Try and construct walls that protect units and confuse the enemy with multiple paths and layers to keep them on their toes.

There won’t be many options upon starting out, so ensure that your Town Hall and storage facilities stay protected if you don’t fancy losing all your hard-earned resources. Protecting your village can earn you trophies too, which are used to rank individual players. Remember, if the Town Hall falls, it’s all over.

Upgrade your troops

Invading enemy villages is an integral part of Clash of Clans, and it can’t be done without an army of deadly units. Upgrading individual troops will grant them unique bonuses, allowing them to take and deal more damage.

This can get awfully expensive though, so try and prioritise what units you decide to upgrade overtime. Giants will be effective at smashing down walls, but Barbarians and Archers are perfect for dispatching hostile troops on the ground.

Upgrade your defenses

Believe or not, defending yourself is an important part of winning a war. Clash of Clans will immediately encourage you to pour time, gold and gems into pimping your defenses, and it’s advice worth taking.

The time it will take to upgrade each component is definitely off-putting, but try your best to soldier through. Top level archers, cannons and towers will go a long way, ensuring you a quick succession of victories.

Protect your shield

In Clash of Clans, the shield is used to protect your village for a specific period of time. Attacking an enemy village will break your shield temporarily, so always keep your guard up.

The game will always notify you when your shield is close to breaking, giving you time to gather resources and fix it up good and proper. Keeping your shield up to scratch will make it easier to gather supplies and earn trophies, preventing pesky enemy invasions.
