Olympus FE-5050 - Test Shots - Detail and Lens Performance

By Cliff Smith

Our Score:

'A range of general test shots are shown over the next two pages. In some cases, the full size image has been reduced for bandwidth purposes, and a crop taken from the original full resolution image has been placed below it to show the overall image quality. Some other pictures may be clicked to view the original full-size image. '

Here's the usual detail test shot of the West Window of Exeter Cathedral, for you to compare with other cameras. See below for a full res crop, or click to see the whole picture. File size 6.1MB.

The level of detail is very good for a budget camera, and the large file size of over 6MB saves most of it.

The lens does produce some barrel distortion at wide angle, but it's not too severe.

Centre sharpness is very good.

Corner sharpness is also good, with less chromatic aberration than on previous FE models.

Cliff has been working overtime coming up with so many reviews in such a short time.

Samsung WB2000/TL350 looks interesting, this should be the target of your forthcoming reviews. The image quality is comparable/close to those from LX3/5 and S90/95 except for the price.

OLYMPUS is a horrible brand with a pathetic after sales. I had bought an FE5050 camera on my trip to switzerland in Dec 2010. When I downloaded the pictures, it were all looking awful. I contacted OLYMPUS and dealer the second day but they are unwilling to do the refund. It is one month now I am chasing with no result. PLEASE DONT GET TRAPPED BY OLYMPUS. This is a horrible BRAND. Please note guys. Go for Canon or Sony or Nikon
