We've made our opinion on the MacBook Air pretty clear already, deciding that the Lenovo X300 is a better option - even costing less. Except that Apple has just lopped £300 off the 64GB-packing Air's MSRP, bringing it down from its near-£2,000 launch price to a more reasonable (a-hem) £1,700-odd.

Given the standard system still sits at £1,990 and SSDs are now dropping into the £130 for a 64GB model and you might start to wonder just where that extra cash is going. As it happens, upgrading from an 80GB standard drive to the SSD costs £389.99 - hardly pocket change. Especially when subjective use suggests there's no real-world benefit to the Mac using solid state.

Admittedly OCZ's Core Series of solid state drives are SATA2 rather than PATA offerings, and couldn't be used in the MacBook Air, but that still doesn't assuage the likely bitter taste in the mouth of anyone paying Apple's upgrade prices.

We just don't see the point in a full review, we've made our opinions clear enough - the Air isn't going to score well on anything but the OS...
