The Eee PC 901 is a tempting enough proposition in itself you'll surely agree. An Eee PC 901 with built-in HDSPA, though? That would be crossing into a whole new plane of desirability.

According to PC World, an Asus representative said that the company will be adding 3G in order to compete with rival Netbooks that are set to see similar upgrades. We've heard rumours elsewhere that WiMAX might be offered on the Eee, as well as HSDPA - although the benefit of the former addition is somewhat less evident than the latter. Not many of us live in Milton Keynes.

From a consumer point of view, the addition of a 3G module to the Eee PC would definitely be a good one. Our current USB HSDPA dongle of choice, the Vodafone USB Modem Stick does work with most Linux distributions, but a built in module is definitely preferable - even if just for freeing up a USB port.

We're taking this rumour with a generous pinch salt right now, but finger crossed…
