MSI Wind Available - Sort Of

You want an MSI Wind, but you know that they're not going to be in sale for weeks now, and you're not interested in the Asus alternative (after all everyone has an Eee PC) so what can you do? If you're feeling particularly savvy, you might consider the Advent Wind 4211 which PC World conviniently has in stock right now.

You might be thinking right now that the two systems look the pretty similar and that, my friends, is because they are. The likeness arising from the fact that Advent is pretty much just slapping its own name on systems it has had made for it by MSI.
Inside, for example, you'll find a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Windows XP is the operating system of choice for the Advent 4211 and the screen is, just like the Wind, a 10in affair.
Where Advent differentiates itself from the MSI Wind is in the colour of the chassis, the placement of its logo. Oh, yes, and the small area of price. The Wind has an MSRP of £329. PC World will exchange an Advent 4211 for a much more reasonable £279.99 (albeit plus £4.95 delivery).
Of course, various resellers have different predicted pricings for the Wind which might put it at a closer price, but if you want to get your hands on a system now, you know what to do.

£329, It's a bit more than this, but I would rather have the MSI and it is considerably less than Expansys wanted for the Linux version.

Only a few quibbles so far, the fan is almost always on, even though the machine feels very cool, though I suppose there may be a way to sort this later, the speedstep does not see... more
