The new 'Studio' line (insert your choice of L'Oréal hair care joke here) comes with the simple choice of a 15.4in or 17in model, each again aptly named the 'Studio 15' and 'Studio 17' and a choice of no less than six preposterously described colours: 'plum' purple, 'tangerine' orange, 'flamingo' pink, 'midnight' blue, 'ruby' red, 'spring' green and 'jet' black. For the more sedate there's a 'graphite' grey finish too with a choice of black, blue, pink or red trims. Still we'll forgive this momentary slip back into branding silliness because the Studios have quite a lot to offer.
Equipped with a range of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, up to 4GB RAM and display resolutions ranging between 1280 x 800 and 1920 x 1200 on the 15.4in and 1440 x 900 and 1920 x 1200 on the 17in we're immediately impressed. The good impressions don't stop there either since a choice of ATI Mobility Radeon 3000 series graphics card options gives further oomph if needed and neat touches such as backlit keyboards and integrated 2MP webcams are to be applauded.
Storage galore is in evidence too with the Studio 15 packing in a drive up to 320GB and the Studio 17 offering up to 640GB with dual HDDs. Wireless n, mobile broadband, Bluetooth and a range of colour co-ordinated peripherals can all be specified too if your wallet is thick enough to take it.
With base models starting at just £379 for the 15 and £469 for the 17 the Studios should do well, especially since they launch immediately and not only online, but also at Tesco, Carrefour and DSGi (PC World, Dixsons etc.) stores. Such sanity is all too much to take...
