The original Eee PC was a hacker's delight - virtually every aspect could be modified and some truly ingenious mods were made. Guess, what? The new one's even better...

According to blog Liliputing, the new Atom-based Eee PC 901 has an array of untapped resources which suggest a) Asus' future plans for the line and b) screwdriver time!

Key things the site has discovered is room for a 1.8in HDD or SSD with waiting ZIF connector, space for a SIM card and even an unused PCI-e slot for added dedicated graphics. Yup, in essence we have a machine which can have its storage bumped, graphics capabilities improved and even potentially onboard HSDPA enabled.

Warning time: if you aren't comfortable taking a soldering kit to your beloved new 901 you should probably steer clear of this, or at least wait until some step-by-step guides start appearing. After all, even something as seemingly basic as an HDD addition will actually run into problems for the uninitiated since the Eee PC's OS is actually installed on a 4GB SSD with a separate 8GB or 16GB one available for storage. Tricky...

Still expect hackers to call Party Time on the 901 when it starts spilling out in large quantities later this month. Anyone care to take bets on just what could be inside the 1000 and 1000H...?!
