Lenovo's 11.1in sub-notebook, the U110, was spotted on a third party retailers site just under a fortnight ago, but some official backing to leaked details is always welcome. Thank providence that Lenovo has catered to that need, then, and put the U110 up on its site - substantiating what was near-enough known anyway.

A low voltage 1.6GHz Intel L7500 processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM and a 120GB hard drive make up the core specs. Two versions of the system, red and black, have either a 5400rpm or 4200rpm drive respectively which seems slightly odd, but who are we to question?

Graphics wise, an X3100 integrated chip will provide enough grunt to run Vista's Aero and not much else, but the U110 isn't exactly supposed to be an Alienware Area-51 m15x. Screen wise, the 11in panel boasts a 1,366 x 768 resolution and LED-backlighting hopefully improving clarity, colour reproduction and battery life.

Speaking of which, the U110 comes with a mere 4-cell battery, providing about two hours of juice. An optional 7-cell expansion pack augments that to nearer eight hours. Despite the form-factor being reminiscent of the Sony Vaio TZ, Lenovo's system isn't quite as refined, also lacking a integrated optical drive.

Other dissimilarities include the pricing which sits at $1,899 (£962) for the U110 compared to £1400-odd for the Vaio TZ. In the US the U110 is available now, but no UK release date is known as yet.
