We've already heard rumours that MSI is readying an Eee PC rival but now the cat is well and truly out of the bag as that system has been spotted. While official details are near enough non-existent, a small amount of information about the system has still been uncovered.

Commencing with the facts: we know the system will be called the MSI Wind, that it will pack a 10in display and that both 2.5in hard drive and SSD options will be available depending on end-user choice. We also know that the initial system will pack 1GB RAM and although MSI won't confirm anything specifically, the assumption is that an Intel Atom processor will be inside - based on previous comments from MSI.

Operating system wise the Wind is expected to, like the Eee PC, have a custom Linux software suite, although quite what that will comprise of is unknown as yet. Lastly, MSI claims the Wind should pull between six and seven hours of work from its battery, which isn't too shoddy.

The Wind will also be available in a range of colours to suite various tastes, yet again rivalling Asus's offering, and should also be priced fairly competitively with its rivals. Depending on spec systems are expected to range from €299 (£220-odd) to €699 (£535-ish). Hopefully more information will follow soon.
